Dive Brief:
- Temp-Stop, a 12-location convenience retailer with stores in Kansas and Missouri, has signed a multi-unit development agreement with full-service restaurant chain Huddle House, according to an emailed announcement.
- Each restaurant will be about 2,200 square-feet and have seating for around 45 people, a spokesperson for Huddle House said via email. The restaurants will be accessible from their main entrances as well as from inside the connecting Temp-Stop c-store.
- The agreement will bring Huddle House to two Temp-Stop stores in Missouri — one in Sedalia and another in Lee’s Summit.
Dive Insight:
Full-service restaurants are becoming increasingly popular in the c-store space. In October, Sprint Mart opened its first Sadie’s Diner, a new sit-down restaurant concept. Early last year, TravelCenters of America, debuted Fork and Compass, joining the company’s other proprietary restaurant banners Iron Skillet and Country Pride.
“When evaluating restaurant options, Huddle House stood out to us as the clear winner,” said Terry Green, one of two brothers who founded Temp-Stop 25 years ago, in the announcement. “The brand has excellent franchise support in all areas from menu development to restaurant design, and we know that with their support we can meet and exceed the community’s dining expectations.”
Huddle House has almost 300 restaurants either already open or in development in 21 states across the U.S. Its menu offers a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, including sandwiches, omelets, waffles and pancakes, and burgers. The full menu will be available at its Temp-Stop-adjacent sites.
“Our strategic partnership with Terry reflects our dedication to expanding our presence in communities that value quality dining experiences,” said Kayla Edidin, senior director of development of Huddle House, in the announcement.
Missouri-based Temp-Stop already partners with Baxter’s Coffee + Donuts at five stores in the Kansas City area. Additionally, some locations include QSR Champ’s Chicken, and the convenience retailer also operates two independent liquor stores under the Cork & Ale name.
