Dive Brief:
- Stewart’s Shops is under contract to buy multiple locations from New York retailer Sliders Food Mart, a Stewart’s spokesperson confirmed.
- While the number of locations included in the deal is not final, Sliders has four locations — in Clayton, Croghan, Lowville and Harrisville. Details of the deal are expected to be finalized by the end of the year, the spokesperson said.
- This news comes a little under a year after Stewart’s announced it would buy the 45-store Jolley chain, which expanded its reach in Vermont and New York and introduced it to New Hampshire.
Dive Insight:
Stewart’s began talks with Sliders Food Mart about a year ago, the spokesperson said. The sites are in a part of New York State that Stewart’s has been looking at for a while. The Sliders locations include a made-to-order foodservice program that includes sandwiches, melts, wraps, subs and pizza, according to that company’s website.
The companies are currently undergoing due diligence on the deal, which was first reported by The Watertown Daily Times.
Stewart’s, which is popular for its proprietary ice cream made with local milk, has more than 350 stores in New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
The company made a big leadership change this year, promoting Chief Operating Officer Chad Kiesow to president in June.
