Dive Brief:
- Shell Rotella, the oil and gas company’s heavy duty lubricants division, has launched a new fuel card that offers savings and benefits for fleet owners and other professional drivers, the company announced Monday.
- The card was released in conjunction with Multi Service Fuel Card, a member of the Shell Group that provides flexible fuel card services. The new Rotella card is accepted at roughly 8,900 sites in the U.S. and Canada, and has multiple credit limits, 24-hour customer service and several billing options.
- With an expected average savings of 45 cents per gallon, the card aims to appeal to cost-conscious drivers and fleet owners.
Dive Insight:
As fuel efficiency across all classes of vehicles continues to improve, oil companies and c-store retailers are focusing on pricing, safety and convenience to pull in more drivers.
"An important goal with this card is to empower fleets with tools and benefits that directly support and reward their hard work and dedication.” said Leigha Hughes, fleet sector marketing manager, in the announcement.
In addition to savings at the pump, members can earn one MyMilesMatter point for each gallon of fuel purchased with the card or combine the card with the Multi Service Fuel Card mobile app for more offers.
The card also offers advanced fraud protection using one-time pin numbers through the app, and fleet owners can set spending limits and authorize non-fuel purchases.
Shell isn’t the only company offering new payment options for professional drivers. In the past year, 7-Eleven has begun accepting Comdata’s fleet cards, Sunoco and TravelCenters of America partnered with AtoB, Phillips 66 began accepting DriverDash mobile payments, Circle K enabled QuickQ fuel card payments at almost 400 stores and Maverik added TransConnect Services.
