Dive Insight:
Sheetz and Wawa are among the c-store industry’s EV charging leaders, according to a report from Consumer Reports earlier this year. Sheetz reached 2 million EV charging sessions in April 2023, and currently has chargers at more than 100 of its locations, a company spokesperson said via email.
As the 750-plus-store chain aims to reach 1,000 stores by 2028, the deal with Ionna helps Sheetz expand its visibility for EV drivers.
“Our collaboration with IONNA has rapidly enabled us to bring more advanced charging options to our customers, demonstrating the power of innovation in delivering seamless, future-focused services," said Trevor Walter, executive vice president of petroleum supply management at Sheetz.
According to the Consumer Reports data, Sheetz already has on average between six and 10 fast chargers at sites that have charging infrastructure.
The Rechargeries will include multiple high-power EV charging bays that will be protected from the elements by Sheetz-red canopies. The companies plan to roll out incentives and loyalty programs for patrons of these Rechargeries next year.
