Dive Insight:
When it brought walk-in beer caves to two of its c-stores back in 2017, Sheetz only sold beer in 11 of its then 546 convenience stores. The retailer expanded its walk-in beer caves over the following years, and by mid-2019, sold beer in nearly 140 stores in Pennsylvania alone.
As of this week, Sheetz customers can place beer delivery orders from 269 of the company’s convenience stores in Pennsylvania, according to the announcement. That’s 87% of the chain’s locations in the state, according to recent data from ScrapeHero.
Some of Sheetz’s private label beers over the years have included Project Hop Dog, an India pale ale dry-hopped with Nugget and Centennial hops and brewed in partnership with Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company; Project Happy Hole-idayz, an ale made with one the brand’s Shweetz glazed vanilla donut holes and brewed alongside Wicked Weed Brewing Company; and Project I Scream, Brew Scream, a strawberry and banana milkshake IPA brewed in partnership with Goose Island Beer Company.
Sheetz did not announce whether it intends to bring beer delivery to other states included in its DoorDash partnership, such as Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. Other items available for delivery via the partnership include Sheetz’s coffee and made-to-order food across breakfast, lunch and dinner. Customers can also order bottled drinks, energy drinks, candy, snack bars, chips and medicine through the platform.
