Mark Sorine, who until recently was the head of safety for one of the world’s largest independent tire retailers, has been named vice president of enterprise safety and security for Pilot Company, a company spokesperson confirmed.
Sorine joined the convenience retailer on June 10, the spokesperson added. On June 18, Sorine announced his new role via LinkedIn, where he said in the comments that he will be relocating to Pilot’s headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee, in mid-July for his new position.
According to his LinkedIn bio, Sorine joins Pilot after spending the past five years as vice president of environmental, health, safety and quality for Discount Tire, which operates over 1,200 tire shops in the U.S.
Before joining Discount Tire, Sorine spent nearly eight years as vice president of safety and security for tank services provider Quality Distribution Inc., according to his LinkedIn bio. While working there, Sorine was awarded a certificate of appreciation from Transcaer, a program that trains emergency responders to prepare for and respond to hazardous material transportation incidents.
From 2006 to 2011, Sorine was director of safety and security for truckload carrier Greatwide Truckload Management, according to his LinkedIn bio. He spent 13 years before that as senior safety manager of health and security for logistics and transportation company Ryder System Inc.
Pilot, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, is one of the largest travel center operators in North America, with 870 locations across 44 states and six Canadian provinces.
