Dive Brief:

- The program, Food on the Fly, features the company’s new Craveritos, bowls and sides, and offers meals across breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to the announcement. These new, hot grab-and-go food offerings are targeted towards travelers and truck drivers, the company said.
- Foodservice innovation has been one of the top priorities across the c-store industry this year as several retailers, large and small, continue to debut new and improved offerings.
Dive Insight:
While Onvo’s new hot foods program is only available at its location in Dorrance, Pennsylvania, the company said it plans to expand it to all 39 of its locations “in the near future,” according to the announcement.
This soft-launch strategy isn’t uncommon for c-store retailers. Last August, Twice Daily convenience stores piloted its made-to-order foodservice program at select locations before rolling it out across its entire chain two months later.
Onvo said in its announcement that its Food on the Fly program will be available at all new-to-industry locations as well. Beyond the menu items, the program will include a made-to-order area where customers can select and customize their preferred options at these sites.
To kick off its new Food on the Fly program, Onvo gave away 100 Craveritos at the Dorrance location on April 4, which happened to be National Burrito Day.
Harman Aulakh, vice president of marketing for Onvo, said the new program marks “an exciting chapter for the company.”
“We believe that this is a great new way to serve travelers and truck drivers on the road with truly craveable, unique food,” he said.
Founded in 1988, Mountain Top, Pennsylvania-based Onvo operates 39 travel stops and gas stations across Pennsylvania and New York. It also has 25 quick-service and full-service restaurants, as well as six hotels in its network.
