Dive Brief:
- Jiffy Trip launched its first-ever mobile app in late June, Erica Miller, communications and marketing specialist for the convenience retailer, said in an interview.
- Jiffy Trip developed its app with the help of c-store app company Rovertown. It features real-time fuel pricing for each of the company's 30 locations, an integration with the retailer’s KickBack rewards program, an employee hub and app-exclusive deals such as popcorn chicken baskets for $3.99.
- Enid, Oklahoma-based Jiffy Trip is one of several c-store retailers this year to launch or relaunch their mobile apps this year with Rovertown. Others have included Han-Dee Hugo’s, Family Express, Gas N Wash and Loop Neighborhood Market.
Dive Insight:
Jiffy Trip first tried to develop a mobile app about six years ago through its own IT department. Eventually, the development process became “too overwhelming,” leading to the company pausing the project, Miller said.
“Technology was moving faster than what our team could keep up with,” she said.
Fast forward to March 2024, and Jiffy Trip’s IT leadership met with Rovertown. The tech company crafted a plan to develop and launch the app by July 1. During those four months, nothing was more important for Jiffy Trip internally, Miller said.
“We hit the ground running,” Miller said. “The app was basically at the forefront of all of our minds and the thing that took up most of the hours of my weeks up until the launch.”
Although Miller and her team were admittedly nervous about what she called an “aggressive” timeline, the app debuted on June 26.
Miller said the response from customers has so far been positive, and the company hopes to add delivery and mobile ordering to the app by the end of this year. She expects Jiffy Trip to constantly evolve its app moving forward in response to customer and employee requests.
“We try to be innovative in the convenience store space, and this was something that we really needed,” Miller said. “And now we have it.”
Jiffy Trip’s first mobile app follows the company’s expansion into Arkansas last year, which marked its first convenience store outside of Oklahoma. The retailer debuted its first store in Arkansas back in March 2023 and has since opened three more locations in the state, according to its website.
