Dive Brief:
- Convenience retailer Huck’s, which operates over 120 c-stores in five states, has revamped its mobile app, according to a Monday announcement.
- The updated Huck’s Bucks Bigg Rewards app includes new loyalty marketing features and scan-and-go payment capabilities, and will soon offer e-commerce and delivery services through Vroom Delivery.
- Huck’s digital update underscores the c-store industry’s increasing appetite for app refreshes. Several other large and mid-size retailers have done their own overhauls this year to boost shopping trips and sales.
Dive Insight:
Huck’s latest initiative was undertaken with the help of c-store app developer Rovertown. The updated platform includes Skip Checkout’s scan-and-go capability — which lets customers pay directly from their phones — and various ways to save on purchases and earn points from loyalty engagement vendor Punchh.
“At Huck’s, our focus is on providing best-in-class shopping experiences in our stores as well as on mobile devices,” Murat Tokad, CEO of Huck’s, said in the announcement. “Our new app assists guests with everyday functions and provides targeted offers within an easy-to-use, modern mobile experience.”
Other new features in Huck’s app include a mobile racing game, which offers customers the chance to win a large Bigg Swigg fountain beverage; and 'tap-to-add' coupons, which let guests select their desired deals and discounts.
Huck’s has reached over 100,000 users in the first month after debuting the new app, Huck’s Director of Marketing Jon Bunch said in the announcement.
"Our emphasis on digital innovation, together with major in-store improvements in recent years, positions Huck’s to effectively serve and enrich our communities for years to come,” he said.
Huck’s joins 7-Eleven, Casey’s General Stores, Nouria Energy, GPM Investments, Kum & Go and several other c-store retailers that have updated their mobile apps in recent months.
Founded in 1974, Carmi, Illinois-based Huck’s has more than 120 c-stores across Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee. The company has more than 2,500 employees.
