Dive Brief:
- GetGo Café + Market, the c-store arm of supermarket chain Giant Eagle, will start offering loyalty members a free cup of self-serve coffee on Mondays at all locations, according to an emailed announcement.
- The promotion, which will run for an undisclosed limited time beginning April 3, applies to any of GetGo’s fresh-brewed hot- and iced-coffee varieties, as well as its new nitro and cold brew coffee items.
- GetGo’s latest deal comes about two months after it completed a company-wide coffee program upgrade, which featured new bean-to-cup coffee machines that both grind and brew coffee, a new house blend and the addition of cold brew and nitrogen-infused options.
Dive Insight:
By offering its new Free Coffee Mondays only to Advantage Card members, GetGo is centering its loyalty program around its most frequent visitors — a method that can help improve loyalty program participation, experts say. The total number of c-store rewards members dropped 16% between 2019 and 2021, according to an October 2022 report from customer experience vendor Paytronix.
To get their free coffee on Mondays, GetGo’s loyalty members must scan their Advantage or myPerks cards at checkout. No other purchases are necessary to receive the brew, and customers are limited to one coffee each Monday. The nitro and cold brew latte products are not available at all GetGo locations.
GetGo’s recent company-wide coffee upgrade, which took four months to complete, continued the retailer’s journey to improve its foodservice operations. GetGo also recently introduced a new burger, fish sandwich and po’ boy to its menu, as well as opened its first new-build c-store with a drive-thru lane on Feb. 2 in Mentor, Ohio.
Pittsburgh-based GetGo has more than 270 stores in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, northern West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana in a variety of formats. Some locations also include WetGo car washes.
