Dive Brief:
- Boutique convenience retailer Foxtrot will open its largest location to date on June 5, according to a Thursday announcement. The 6,000-square-foot store will be located on South 1st St. and Annie St. in Austin, Texas.
- The location will feature an indoor-outdoor covered patio in addition to Foxtrot’s all-day cafe and locally sourced food and beverage options, according to the announcement. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
- This marks Foxtrot’s second store in Austin. The first opened in February, and the retailer plans to debut a third location near Austin City Hall — which will also have a large covered patio — in the coming weeks, according to the announcement.
Dive Insight:
Foxtrot’s latest store underscores the company’s larger growth plans, which, in addition to more locations in its current areas of operation, may also soon include suburban stores in its home base of Chicago, CEO Liz Williams said in a recent interview.
Foxtrot currently has 27 locations across Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
The retailer’s newest and largest store, in Austin’s Bouldin Creek neighborhood, spans what used to be two buildings — an auto repair shop and a grocery store, according to the announcement. At 6,000 square feet, it nearly doubles the size of the average c-store in the U.S., according to NACS.
All offerings inside the store are available for pickup and delivery via Foxtrot’s mobile app. Items include coffee, seasonal cafe drinks, fresh smoothies, breakfast tacos, chef-prepared salads and bowls, grab-and-go meals, craft beers and wine. Foxtrot will host a grand opening celebration on June 6, featuring food, live music and giveaways.
The announcement of its largest store comes on the same day Foxtrot opened its fifth location in Washington, D.C. — a 3,760-square-foot site in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood.
