Dive Brief:
- EG America, the U.S. subsidiary of convenience retailer EG Group, has named its second interim president within the past year as it continues to search for a new company leader, a source familiar with the situation confirmed.
- Nick Unkovic, chief legal and administrative officer for EG America, took over as interim president in “recent weeks,” the source said. Unkovic has succeeded former interim president and chief financial officer Caroline Taitelbaum, who recently left the company, the source noted.
- As was the case with Taitelbaum, there is no plan for Unkovic to permanently occupy the position. He has agreed to take on the role until a permanent president is recruited, the source said.
Dive Insight:
Taitelbaum took over as interim president last October after George Fournier — who was named president of EG America in early 2020 — was unable to continue in the role on health grounds.
Transferring the position to Unkovic was a “planned change,” as Taitelbaum had previously expressed her intention to move on from the company, the source said. According to her LinkedIn bio, Taitelbaum left EG America in July.
According to the source, EG America is “making good progress” with its plans to find a new company president.
A spokesperson from EG Group declined to comment when asked about Taitelbaum’s departure and Unkovic’s promotion to interim president.
Unkovic has been EG America’s chief legal and administrative officer since joining the company in August 2018, according to his LinkedIn bio. His shift to interim president isn’t the first time he’s taken on a temporary role within the company. He was also interim vice president of human resources between July 2019 and January 2020.
Prior to joining EG America, Unkovic held numerous positions over seven years with consumer goods corporation Procter & Gamble Co., and was also general counsel for Honeywell Intelligrated for a brief period.
Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group currently has more than 5,500 c-stores across the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Europe and Australia.
