This summer saw significant expansion activity by convenience store chains, with several major players pushing into new states and metropolitan areas.
Both QuikTrip and Kwik Trip announced stores in new territories — the former in Colorado and the Chicago area, the latter in Michigan. Royal Farms also outlined its first store in Michigan.
What’s driving the rapid pace of expansion? For some chains, these are gradual movements into new markets. Others, meanwhile, are in the midst of a significant growth push as they look to bring their beloved brands to new customers.
That’s certainly the case with Wawa, which recently broke ground on its first store in Alabama, slated to open in 2024. That chain, known far and wide for its foodservice, is in the midst of its “most aggressive growth” period ever, CEO Chris Gheysens told the Philadelphia Business Journal. It’s also the plan for Buc-ee’s, the chain with the beloved supersized stores that recently pushed beyond Texas and now has its sights set on Missouri, Colorado and beyond.
Read on for more on the expansion plans of several c-store chains.
