Dive Insight:
With the rise of electric vehicles and more fuel-efficient cars and trucks, gas stations of all kinds are competing to attract drivers by making the fueling experience as smooth as possible. Adding in-demand payment methods is one simple way to do that.
Innovative payment methods can attract younger consumers, with an overwhelming number of Generation Z and millennial shoppers preferring contactless digital payments, according to a PYMNTS Intelligence report last year.
“We’ve made one-stop shopping even more convenient,” said Bill Werner, executive vice president, strategy and development at BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Tap & Pay joins our contactless shopping services, including ExpressPay, so members can have a speedier checkout for fueling up.”
BJ’s Club members will need to scan their physical or digital membership cards before using the tap-to-pay feature. BJ’s One Mastercard holders don’t need a separate membership card and also receive up to 15 cents off the fill-up.
